S/SS Shootout
winner Tim Nicholson

The
inaugural KID Stock/Super Stock shootout took center
stage for the
May 16th event, ushering in a new era of specialty
races for Kansas
International Dragway. Two of the three 2008 Cobra
Jet Mustang
stocker entries survived a stellar field with an
abundance of Stock
and Super Stock record holders and stick shift cars,
only to meet in
the semi-finals. Chad Holzman got the best of car
owner Brent Hajek
when Hajek broke out, running 9.86@135.99 on his
9.88 dial-under. On
the other side of the semi-final ladder, the Phil
Unruh owned G/SA ’73
Camaro, driven by Tyler Wudarczyk, met up with the
Cassil brothers’
GT/I ’66 Chevy II piloted by Tim Nicholson.
As the lone Super Stock
survivor of the combo, Nicholson prevailed when
he was able to barely
break out Wudarczyk, who ran an 11.308@110 on his
11.31 prediction.
Holzman spotted Nicholson in the final by virtue
of their 9.80 and
10.27 dials, then wasn’t able to wait quite
long enough, turning on
the redlight, handing the win to Nicholson.
Phil Unruh received
the Hajek Motorports Museum best appearing award
for his beautiful SS/EA ’69 Camaro, while
Nicholson took home the
Patterson Racing Performance Warehouse top Super
Stock qualifier
money, and Brent Hajek with the Wikle Performance
Specialties Stock
top qualifier prize. Additional accolades were given
by Stinnett
Automotive and Holzman Race Cars for best package
and best reaction
time in eliminations, received by Allan Patterson
and Tim Nicholson
respectively.
In the other classes,
both Mark Johnson in Sportsman, and Kurt Butts
in Pro soloed their way to wins when their opponents
weren’t able to
make the call. The three Super Pro survivors, Forshee,
Cordell and
Henning, decided to split the remaining pot. In
Top Eliminator, Kevin
Seymour defeated Wayne Henning in a double breakout
thriller.
